I'm glad so many people enjoyed the Discovery show that I posted the info on.
 I will make sure I post the info on any other shows about ferrets or their
relatives.  If you liked it, there are some video tapes on the same subjects
made by the Audobon Society, and National Geographic that are available for
loan from many public libraries and they are worth the effort of looking for
them.
 
As for where ferrets are legal in the Metropolitan NY and surrounding
suburban areas, it is as follows:
Manhattan and boroughs of it including Brooklyn and Queens,Ferrets are not
allowed at all.
In Nassau, ferrets may be kept (with a DEC license) but may not be bought
sold or advertised.
In Suffolk all that is required is that you obtain the DEC(state) license.
I will add though that although there is no rabies on Long Island, all dogs
and cats are required to have a rabies vaccine and I strongly suggest it for
ferrets traveling through these areas.
 
The excellent pet shop that Richard Florio mentions in #901 is Selmer's
Petland at 125 E.Jericho Tpke, Huntington (516)423-4677
It has been
 there for over 35years and is it run by some very fine people.
