On the temperature susceptibility thing:
Am I way off here? If ferrets and their mustelid cousins can't take 80
degrees F in the shade how can there be mustelidae anywhere but the polar
caps? Those Black Footed types thrived from South Dakota to Arizona until we
wiped 'em out. The Arizona sun and the Midwest mugginess couldn't kill 'em.
The problems if you all are correct:
1) I have to find a northern out-of-state shelter for my guys pronto.
2) Legalizing the buggers in CA would be tantamount to ferretcide.
3) Most US ferret owners will have to move to Canada, 'cause it gets a
hell of a lot hotter than 80 here, and summer's comin'.
If you're being alarmist in the cause of making people aware, then I
understand. Don't scare a sunbelter so!
From Debbie R:
<American Airlines, United Airlines, and Delta Airlines
<WILL NOT let ferrets on board.
Airline "prejudice" against ferrets?
Come on folks ... the ferret won't escape? Ever? The cargo section can
hold water, but the passenger section's another story. There're all sorts of
neat little nooks and crannies in the fuselage; heck, there's even a
dumbwaiter that goes down to the galley. Can you imagine a ferret loose on a
jetliner? You might catch him and you might not. He might even work himself
into a situation that's a little too tight or a little under pressurized. If
you're lucky, they'll tear the megabuck jet apart. If not ...
Sorry to be such a poop, Debbie & others, but I agree with the bad guys on
this one.
