Hi all. I've noticed that one of my ferrets has an amazing sense of smell.
Whenever I am eating something that he likes (ex. m&m's, cereal, other types
of candy...) no matter how deeply he is sleeping he wakes up and comes
investigating. Sometimes I'll try to hide the food so I don't have to share
with him, but he'll just keep sniffing my face and hands and watching me. He
is persistant, so I either have to give up, and put the food away, or share.
If I'm eating something like pizza, which he doesn't like, he doesn't bother
me.
I'm a college student, and live in essentially a one-room apartment and never
cage my ferrets, so it's impossible to get away from them and can be
extremely frustrating!
He's terribly cute though, so I usually share what I'm eating. It's very
funny to see the rear end of a ferret hanging out of a cereal box as he digs
for what he wants. I don't let him eat too much though because I don't want
to ruin his appetite for his regular food, and also because I think he
selectively picks only the marshmallows out of the Lucky Charms which
doesn't really seem fair.
Just thought I'd share a story...
Take care!
Jill (and Damien & Caelan, the ferrets)
