To Jeff Haremski:
>What I would like to know, if she does have an ulcer, is there anything
>Ican do about it? My roommate had an ulcer once, and it was so bad that
>he had to have surgery. Are there any non- surgical cures?
Jeff - ulcers are not surgical cases in ferrets. Although the treatment may be
prolonged, up to 6 weeks, we treat them all medically. Ulcers are treated so
that we also treat concurrent Helicobacter infections at the same time. The
treatment consists of Amoxicillin 10-20 mg/lb twice daily, one fifteenth of a
Pepto-Bismol tablet every six hours, and a bland diet - "Duck Soup", or at my
house, chicken baby fortified by a small amount of gruel made from the feret's
general diet. It's best to go for a month at least, even if clinical signs
abate.
