To L. R. Liptak concerning tranquilizers:
 
        I am not a big fan of using tranquilizers on ferrets.  Most of the time
it is unnecessary and often only serves to compound the problem of a nervous
ferret by disorienting them.
 
        Before drugging your ferret, you might just get them used to being in
the cage.  If you are using an airline that allows ferrets in the cabin with
you, then a bit of noise from you pet shouldn't be a big deal.
 
        If you must use a tranquilizer, then you can obtain it from your vet.
Acepromazine has been reported to be effective in the foolowing doses:
 
0.09-0,23 mg/lb IM or subq, or .5mg ace orally/lb.
