Our ferret Pauly, has developed an odd habit. He is finally one year old
and this started 4 months ago.
When my husband and I sleep late on the weekend, Pauly figures 8am is a really
good time to wake us. He really starts at 5am, returning every hour to
scratch at the bedroom door. Finally, my husband reaches over and opens the
door. What is strange is when we don't speak to him. I guess he is so
familiar with hearing "Hi Paul, what's up" that it seems to upset him.
He will climb the bed, walk up to the center of your chest, stare at your
face. If you do not respond, he starts to hiss softly. It's just a little
sputter of a hiss, but I thought ferrets hiss when frightened??!!
I think I have a small (3lb) brat on my hands, I was playing with one of
his toys ("Bunny" a small stuffed rabbit) when he came upstairs and found
me. I was only patting "Bunny" and moving it, but Pauly Hissed and took
"Bunny" away downstairs. Didn't his mommy tell him it's nice to share...
He likes sharing if it's something I have, that he wants.
Do young ferrets outgrow this? or did I mess up raising him.
Thanks,
Deb
