Unfortunately, I am very allergic to my three ferrets.  I've been able to cope
with the help of two HEPA air cleaners which seem to make a big difference in
the airborne allergen level.  These air cleaners are expensive, but if this is
the only way to keep my pets, it's worth it.  It also helps to keep the ferret
cage in a non-carpeted area near a big window.  Our ferrets' play room is in a
small room with carpet, and I can't stay in this room for very long. But their
usual location, the breakfast area of our kitchen near a sliding door, doesn't
cause me too much trouble. When all else fails, I resort to my Ventolin
inhaler.  I've also been advised by my allergist to reduce other sources of
allergens in the house, such as dust mites.
