In the "cheap ferret toys" department, Pixxel has had enormous fun with
a pecan (unshelled) she stole.  It's not quite small enough for her to get
in her mouth, and it's oblong, so it rolls funny.  Her plastic balls aren't
nearly so interesting.  (Incidentally, does anyone know if this pecan would
hurt her, should she happen to gnaw it open and eat some?)

We went travelling with the two "kids" last weekend, and they were a great
hit.  One of the homes we visited housed a pair of cats, and we found that our
ferrets could pick things up from the kitties.  Unfortunately, what they
managed to pick up was a small case of fleas!  Bleagh, the poor things.  Now
they're confined to their cage until cured, to prevent the fleas from getting
into the carpets or furniture.  Any advice from those of you with experience
with this problem, apart from judicious application of cat flea shampoo (is
that safe for a 9-week-old kit?) and carpet flea spray (around the cage)?
