Speaking of ferrets getting stuck in tubes, I have a similar story, and
a funny one. Pogo, my largish male sable worked his way into a hem in
the pillowcase I had given him as a blanket. I wasn't home, but my wife
was there, though she didn't see him until she heard Bungee (usually very
quiet, *tiny* butterscotch female) making a ruckus in the cage. It's so
unusual for Bungee to make noise, my wife just had to see. Pogo saw her
coming, and managed to flop himself out of his bed, though he couldn't
move his legs. My wife could see he wasn't breathing, and quickly tore
the seam out of the pillowcase. She said he was very content to be held
for quite a while. My wife told me later about how Bungee had saved Pogo,
and I thought it was the sweetest thing I'd ever heard. I was very grate-
ful to her.
Pogo and Bungee used to live in a cool split-level cage with a trap door
between levels, so we could separate them if necessary. Pogo got sick
once, so we put Bungee in the "downstairs", and Pogo "upstairs", and closed
the trap door. When we checked on them in the morning, Bungee had opened
the trap door and gone up to sleep with Pogo. It's really sweet how much
she loves him. :)
The funny story is that Pogo now loves to play in large cardboard tubes,
(well, all of my furries do), even though it's kind of a sqeeze for him
to push his tubby little butt into them.(the tube is 3" diameter, I think)
When he's inside the tube, I can pick it up and blow in one end, and Pogo
pops out of the other end like a fuzzy little bullet! Well, more like
"spills" out. It's not like I'm shooting my ferret across the room, he
just dumps out onto the couch. I'm not sure if he appreciates this much,
so I don't do it much. He goes right back in, though, and just sits in
there, so maybe he likes being part of a "ferret blowgun".
While I'm here, does anyone else get so many "ferret kisses" that their
skin gets raw. Tinkerbelle (silly little female silvermitt) seems some-
times like she would never stop giving kisses if I didn't stop her. I've
heard of "ferret kissing" contests at ferret shows, do I have a winner? ;)
