Nestle' doesn't pass out when picked up by the scruff, either.  Hershey
just sits there, yawning contentedly, but Nestle' scratches at my hand,
struggles, even shakes her head.  She doesn't mind being picked up that way,
but she won't stand for having her ear drops put in or her claws snipped
in that position.  The ear drops I just have to force on her (though she
shakes a lot of it out.) but for the claws, I find a drop of Ferretone
on her chest keeps her occupied long enough to clip them.
