More on the Fervac-D vaccine...
I ordered it today in single doses (since I've never done this myself
before, I figured I need it to be as simple as possible). Here's
what I'm paying:
Each dose of Fervac-D - $2.25
Each syringe - $.50 (I'm still amazed you can mail-order these things!)
Next day UPS - $15.00 (Barbara only paid $5 for regular shipping)
Even with the next day shipping, that's still a *LOT* cheaper than
what my vet charges!
The lady I talked to was very friendly and helpful. I've seen my
ferrets vaccinated many times, but have never done it myself. I asked
her about it, and she said that the vaccine comes with instructions.
It should be here by 10:30 tomorrow (Wed.), so I guess I'm going to
have to learn how pretty darn quickly. Unfortunately the person in my
club who knows how to do the vaccinations is the one who has had the
distemper outbreak, so she can't help me.
--------------------
On a more personal note... I am scared to death about this thing.
Every time I come home my heart leaps into my throat not knowing what
I'm going to find. Even though my girls were vaccinated, the vaccine
only has about a 90% efficacy (sp?). That means my girls have about
a 10% chance of getting this thing. When you're dealing with something
this serious, that seems like a huge number. This is going to be one
of the longest 3 weeks in my life! |-( <--- stress face

Chris, I'm sincerely sorry to hear about your sister-in-law's Tia.
Please convey my (and I'm sure all of our) condolences to her. It's
a shame that she lived such a long life only to be taken out of it
by a serious illness.
Please keep us informed about the results of the tests. I truly hope
it's not distemper, because if it's spreading that fast, it's a really
bad sign that it's going to do a *LOT* of damage!
What was Tia's vaccination status?
