Well, I'm not very knowlegable about many ferret legalities. New York
state requires a ferret license just to own a ferret. You're expected to pay
$10 per year to keep a the license current. I don't have it with me but I got
mine two years ago when I purchased my second ferret. I don't have him anymore
so I don't have a current license. However, at that time the license permitted
you to "own a ferret and/or breed and sell them". I was very surprised by the
fact that one license allows you to basically do anything you would want to do
with ferrets. The license was valid for any number of ferrets you may have so
I suppose you could just breed any number you want and sell them out of your
home. It made no stipulations about the way you do anything.
That above anthing else indicated to me that New York cared only about
making money off of the license and not at all about the welfare of society or
the ferrets. I'm sure each state is different. It took about two weeks for
me to get my license in the mail. I got the application from the pet store and
they sent it in for me after I filled it out.
Good luck.
