Request for info as I'm sure I've read a similar story here before. One of
our adventurous souls became a little too curious over the weekend and lost
a nail from her rear foot in the process. Holly managed to leap from a
couch onto an antique magazine stand with small chains attaching various
parts. End result was her rear leg catching the chain...nail caught in the
links..and panic. By the time my wife ran in (upon hearing the commotion),
Holly had completely pulled off her nail.
Those babies bleed like you wouldn't believe...(no I didn't witness but was
told the story). End result was a very scared ferret...a missing nail...and
a few shaken humans. Bleeding was controlled...an over-the-counter
antibiotic ointment applied after cleansing..and a small bandage. Is there
more to be done? We were going to keep an eye out for infection but it
appears that the pain has subsided (unless directly touched I'm sure).
Another comment on the Northern Exposure episode: does it bother others on
the list that a comment was made that the ferret "didn't belong in the
city...it belongs in the wild"? Unfortunately, this type of comment (viewed
by millions), could misinform folks about ferrets. Could be I'm just too
sensitive to the issue?
