In response to the article sent by Urban Fredriksson [log in to unmask] about
ferret sizes. I've had 8 ferrets over the past 10 years (currently
Roo and Piglet) I've had 4 males and 4 females. From what I've seen
my males are always in the 2.5 - 2.5 kg size, females 1.8 - 2.0 kg size.
My vet and I were always surprised that mine have always been so much
larger than many of the ones other folks have, but after a while we
discovered that a lot of it has to do with diet. I have always fed
my ferrets IAMS Cat food with supplements of cooked liver and plenty
of Linetone. No sweets or snacks etc. They have never seen the outside
nor have they ever been exposed to other ferrets since they came home
from the breeder. My past pets (Augie,Pooh,E-Or,Winnie,Kanga,Robin) all
lived to be at least 8 years old (except poor Pooh who developed pnemonia (sp)
and as my vet latter discoverd, a heart defect - Pooh was 5 when he died)
BTW I meant 2.5 - 3.0 kg size for males
