Sorry to take so long in sending this out to you.
For the fellow who had such a misfurtunate time with his initial
experience with a ferret.
[Nipping in kits is quite normal. Hard biting isn't. At that
age, they're not entirely sure what the difference between food
and fingers is.]
I would suggest a visit to a rescue. The person in charge can offer
contact with some VERY calm, loving, affectionate mature ferrets.
It's such a shame that for the most part peoples' first contact with
a ferret is a kit. It frightens them when the kit begins to nip at
them in play. Next thing you know it's a "throwaway".
I would perfer to start out a "new to ferrets" owner with a mature
or older ferret. These are over the baby stage, socialized, and most
totally potty trained. Can you think of a better match?
There are so many mature, and older, healthy ferrets who need homes
waiting at rescues hoping someone will give them a permanent, loving
home all their own.
Rose
