re: cancers in ferrets.

There is a survey being circulated with regard to Lymphomas (Lymophosarcoma) .
One popular theory with regard to (any) farm raised ferrets, is that they are
 often
neutered too early (most often at 4-6 weeks). This is thought to have adverse
 effects on
their immune system, in that too early a spaying or neutering may inhibit the
development of the immune system that might otherwise ward off such cancers. It
 is
also being postulated that Lymphomas may be related to Aleutians disease. I'll
upload Dr. Susan A. Brown's article on Lympohomas and on the survey being
done...

Persons wishing to take part in the survey should write to :

Greater Chicago Ferret Association
P.O. Box 7093
Westchester IL 60154-70943

PLease include a S.A.S.E.

re: National Domestic Ferret Census

Even though I've heard rumors of another such survey being done, We're forging
ahead with ours. Cintrary to earlier reports, we will only be concentrating on
the population of ferrets currently being kept as pets. Other surveys will be
Targeted at Breeders, Retailers and Shelters.

RE: The GCFA shelter

The shelter is back in business. We're already getting some critters in from
Cheeseland and thanks to those of you who sent donations... We still need fodd
 and liter.

<oops... make that 'food' not 'fodd'...
