About Gene Chilton :
Tlingit artist, Gene Chilton grew up in both Juneau and Angoon, Alaska.
Gene began his career as a silver engraver in 1978, studying under
master carver Ed Kasko of Klukwan, Alaska. "Our local grade school had
local Native carvers come in and teach us kids how to carve," says
Chilton. From this early start, he and several of his brothers have
become masters of various styles of art, including jewelry and carving.
Chilton was certified in stone stetting and repairs by the Gemological
Institute of America in 1988. He has become a prolific and well-known
artist, working in both silver and gold, and has a great interest in
perpetuating the art form through teaching. Chilton currently lives
and works in Juneau.
