Good Morning,
On Saturday and Sunday, we sent out two "ferret rescue kits" (each
carrier contains bedding, food, treats, ferretlax, shampoo, eye wash,
ear swabs, etc.) with the two animal rescue "teams" from this area
who were en route to Kentucky and to Missouri. The carriers we use are
the nice big roomy ones that delivered most of our DMK ferrets to our
shelter. These folks went to the Joplin devastation last year and one
of the teams also went to Smithville, MS - a town which was totally
destroyed by and F4. I still have the two ferrets from Smithville.
These teams work in "recovery" and are always hopeful that they will
find life amongst the destruction. We pray these teams are successful
with these missions as well.
These teams work closely with FEMA and the Red Cross. They also contact
the local rescue groups once they arrive at a scene. All of the
agencies have our shelter contact numbers....no word on ferrets as of
today, Friday, March 9th.
Since Katrina and Rita, our rescue groups have become well-organized.
Our local groups are listed with FEMA and with the Red Cross. And our
local rescue groups keep updated with our "teams". Each group has
"kits" on hand for immediate dispatch and our "teams" are given these
kits as events occur. We get our "kits" back either empty or with
rescued animals from our "teams". Like I said, its a well-oiled machine
we have...
In the event that ferrets are found and remain with their owners,
offer of assistance is given and we will pass those requests along
to F.E.R.R.E.T. but we can help also and we will work with the local
groups on the ground to assist ferrets in need.
Sadly....looks like an early season for tornadoes .... I just hope it
doesn't match or surpass 2011 which was the worst in history.
Please remember these folks in these areas with donations to the Red
Cross who will get these much-needed funds to those who need them the
most during this horrible time....
