Steve is back home now with the ferrets, who had been watched by a
neighbor, while I remain in MA in a hotel till the advanced glaucoma
surgeon gives me the okay to be allowed to go home. The ferrets got
excited last night when he gave them Computer FaceTime w me.

My surgery was on Friday morning at Mass Eye and Ear on my worse eye.
They went with a large filtration bleb which is a lot less complicated
than the implant my ophthalmologist thought would be needed. This way
we give the bleb a chance to work but can still do an implant later if
needed.

Each day I get examined since clots have to be kept out of the bleb,
the redness and bruising need to be followed, infection avoided,
behavior of the meds followed, and when pressure is not as low as
desired a stitch at a time is removed from my eye by laser and
sometimes the bleb is aspirated.

At lower pressures so far my acuity is better, too, but time will tell
more about that.

For those who do not know I have multiple risk factors for glaucoma,
which usually begins when elderly in my family but started in my late
forties because I am so extremely nearsighted, too. My eyes maintained
well for a great many years with meds, laser surgeries, and checking
them at least every four months but this year my worse eye suddenly got
dramatically worse which is why I needed invasive surgery. When at a
Trader Joe's, which we do not go to often due to distance, I realized
that I carry around detailed mental maps of places we often go because
I realized that I was seeing nothing to one side, went to put my hair
behind my ear, and found that it already was there. So, after several
hours of tests to document the change I was sent here for a more
detailed set of tests, and the surgery i have had was scheduled.

So, I am taking it easy and talking w Steve and the ferrets w computer
face time which we all enjoy.

Writing that long a message was a bit hard on my eye so will Bcc this
to some.

Oh,and at a medical supply store I found a washcloth washing and no
rinsing shampoo that is even better than the hospital one for my hair.
It is called No Rinse and made by Clean Life in Ohio. Should be great
for areas in drought and for other health needs, too.
