Sorry for the late posting, below is a copy of what I posted previously
on the FHL, right now I wouldn't have been able to alter or replace it
with a shorter version.
Even my new signature line hurts like hell.
This will take me some time.
After 7 days of the Dex, Sugar was almost back to her original weight,
looking good and mentally alert, inquisitive and trying everything she
had done before (Dex magic).
The next day seemingly the same but after two eating sessions I could
see that her breathing was laboured. As the the day progressed she was
visibly getting worse and the eating, still at the same intervals but
reducing in amount each time. She was having to rest frequently to get
in enough oxygen to continue. I put Suki away as night fell and Sugar
would sleep in the shredded paper box as she had for about 10 days. I
put food, water and litter box within 2-3 feet of the entrance to her
new den, and decided to stay in the room all night. She emerged several
times but would not use the new facilities at all, she insisted in
walking slowly and with rests, to where things were before. I tried
tempting, coaxing, water and food in my hand, picking up and placing
her next to where every thing was but nothing altered her resolve. I
then put a second set in the original places and she managed to eat a
small amount, but I carried her back and she went in the her new den
again. I stayed with her with the TV on quietly and fell asleep about
0330. I woke a couple of hours later and checked the box fearing the
worse but found a warm, breathing ferret. I had already emailed the
vet's office to say I would be there the next day, Monday.
During the day Sugar was out frequently and tried to eat many times, a
few small amounts only. I then offered her a piece of food each time,
she ate a few pieces but later in the day could no more than hold it
in her mouth for a few seconds before it dropped to the floor. She
had tried and given it all she had.
I stayed with her until the morning. I rang the office again for the
best time to get there, that would suit the vet and myself. I had
already decided at the start of the weekend that now was time to bring
the best end possible to this awful problem. Sugar left her home of
almost 8 years for the last time. At the vets he was visibly startled
by her condition. We talked about her and both held her. Then Sugar
left for a better place, in her dad's arms.
Well that took a long time, with breaks to dry the keyboard. It may
be that I have offended some people who read this, I don't care, my
compassion was stolen by Sugar.
Tony, Suki and ????? just born somewhere.
In memory of Sally, Sue and Sugar.
