A couple of thoughts.....
 
To Miran:  Congrats on your baby!!  You two will have a lot of fun together.
I'm glad you're so enthusiastic about ferrets......but there are some other
things to keep in mind - Massachusetts is, as far as I know (someone tell me if
I'm wrong), a state where ferrets are illegal.  So you may want to post
anonymously.  The other thing is that when you fly, you may have trouble
getting Gizmo in/out of the state.  Someone else on the FML was trying to fly
in or out of Mass. a while ago (near the holidays, I seem to remember), and was
worried about having trouble at the airport.  I think that theoretically the
state could confiscate your pet, although I don't know if the Mass. authorities
are prone to this.  Someone from the area could tell you more about this.
Anyone??  At any rate (you probably thought of this already), get to the
airport early because, like you said, usually only one pet per cabin is
allowed, and if someone else gets there first, Gizmo may have to go in the
animal hold.  I don't think he'd like that.  Sorry - I don't mean to rain on
your parade, but I don't want you to lose your buddy either.
 
BTW - ferrets sleep a lot period.  Kits probably more so.  I think that 14-16
hours of sleep a day isn't out of line for a ferret, so chances are Gizmo isn't
sleeping too much.  And you can probably leave the food out - I do with Alky
and she eats what she wants.  Hope this helps.  Have fun!
 
To Dr. Brown/Dr. Williams - I'm puzzled/concerned.  Alky (she's 2 1/2 and
spayed) seems to have some sort of urethral problem.  When I turn her over the
outer area seems mildly irritated (it's red), and occasionally I'll see a tiny
spot of dried blood at the urinary opening.  There is no obvious discharge
other than the blood.  She doesn't seem to have any discomfort on urination,
and she's voiding a normal volume.  Her activity and eating are normal also.
This has been off and on again for three weeks or so, and the day I took her to
the vet, the area looked fine.  I was worried about a possible bladder
infection, but her urinalysis was normal, with no white blood cells.  Now I'm
wondering if she's got some minor cut or scrape on the surface that she's
reopening when she crawls around.  Any ideas??  Thanks!
