With all due respect, I am in disagreement with Millie Sanders' post
about the fundraising efforts of the Underground Secret Santa Society.
Her reply was based on a lack of information on her part and questions
the integrity of our group.
I am happy that Texas Ferret Lover's Rescue is able to operate "in the
black" every month. Other shelters, rescues and sanctuaries should be
so fortunate. I don't think she has any idea of the vet bills some of
these other rescues face, nor how many ferrets are in their care. And
not everyone is blessed enough to get a discount on their vet care,
either.
The USSS group was formed because there were over 30 ferrets in various
shelters that had ferrets on the Giving Tree and they GOT BURNED. The
Giving Tree was formed to HELP these rescues, sanctuaries and shelters.
To give them a break and help them with food, supplies and vet care
they so desparatly need. When these guys are just blown off, what, as
a community of ferret-lovers', are we supposed to do? Let it slide??
Do you know there was one shelter that posted only 7 ferrets on the
Tree and FIVE got forgotten? And we are just supposed to stand back
and say, "Oh that must suck"??
Yes, we run rescues and sanctuaries and shelters. We put our
hard-earned money into it. We operate on 3 hours of sleep every night.
We put our own needs aside because we love these babies and most of us
would sacrifice everything for them.
Yes, we have fundraisers and we ask for help. Some don't have the time
or energy to host live auctions or Bingo nights. But it is the nature
of our calling, it is what every animal and human rescue does:
FUNDRAISE. Can we support all of them? No, of course not. And that's
OK, no one is expecting every person to support every fundraiser. We
put it out there and those that can or want to help, help. Some people
prefer to support SOS and that is fine, too. SOS is one organization
and they are awesome, but even they can't help everyone.
How can you begrudge the honest efforts of a group of good people who
just want to help? The rescues/sanctuaries and shelters the USSS group
is helping were NOMINATED by our members. Each one of these rescues
are in need. They did not ask us to help them. WE nominated THEM. No
application needed.
This month we are featuring the Ferret Villa, run by Cindy and Tom
Scheidt. If anyone knows these wonderful folks, you know they are
always there to help others. Now we want to help them. Tom and Cindy
run their shelter out of pocket on a fixed income, with health issues
of their own. They started Tower of Fun to help support the ferrets in
their shelter. Tom and Cindy are ALWAYS the first to step up and help
any shelter or shelter ferret in need. Our auction has some really cool
items that were freely donated by somne very generous people. If you
would like to go check it out and make a bid, go to our auction site:

The Ferret Villa could use food and supplies, too. If anyone would like
to send things to them directly, here is their information:
