I bought the North States Clear Choice Gate (to be referred to as CCG)
at Babies R Us probably early 2008. I've been very happy with them. I
have the 23" tall one, never had a kid get get over one. If you have
clever ones you may want to get the CCG XT which is 32" tall. One is
used in a doorway, the other in a hallway. They were tested by five
kids.

The main problem with them comes from the doorways themselves. If the
door frames are crooked, or your baseboards thicker or taller, it makes
it harder to get the gate to fit securely. I have had to resort to
thick cardboard to help on the sides where the pads are to get a better
fit. If you use them in the door frame just be sure to put it on the
side that makes it harder for the kids to push out (oops, silly me).

Seems to me at Babies R Us (if you have one) they were around $20, you
can return it if it doesn't work.

I know others have bought the extension panels for the Midwest or
Marshall's playpens and put hooks in the walls and used those to limit
their ferrets to certain areas.

For the person who posted about the window, we have single hung windows
that are lower to the floor. I was paranoid about leaving the ferret
room window open, even though mine never got up on the window sill. I
put one of the North States Diamond Mesh Gates (the regular cheap baby
gate) in the window pressed up as close to the window as possible and
then would rest the blind on top to prevent anyone from getting out
that way. Don't know if that would help with your clever one or it. We
had to replace the windows in that room and now have double hung, I
feel so much better about it and, their room is cooler with the
improved windows.
