Yesterday's (Monday) newspaper from Phoenix, the Arizona Republic,
had a front page story and photo about the Phoenix Zoo's Conservation
Center and the success of the captive breeding program that symposium
attendees visited in June. Read it for yourself ar www.azcentral.com.
You will have to use the search bar at the top of the page. There is
going to be a celebration event at the zoo each day this weekend. They
didn't mention in the story that four of the cages were remodeled
recently to accommodate some Mount Graham red squirrels, a species of
concern here in Arizona that are restricted to a small area east of
Tucson. Like Noah's ark, some squirrels are being kept at the zoo in
case a forest fire ravages their home range. I don't know what that
did to the ferret population at the zoo.
