I have had turtles, fish, mice, a hamster, parakeets, a guinea pig, a
rabbit, gekkos, chameleons and several cats. Though I always wanted
one, I've never had a dog, so I can't compare them with ferrets.

So what is it about ferrets? Ferrets are the clowns of the pet world,
the world's best "ferapists," the most clever of theives, eternal
explorers, persistent perpetrators and most adept at getting into
places where none others would go. In addition to their silly antics,
just watching them sleep in those impossible silly heart- warming
positions makes me smile with love.

A friend, who is a cat lover, gave me my first ferret, a 7-wk old kit
named Rocky, as a surprise birthday present. I, too, was a cat-lover at
that time. After spending weekends and a couple of months staying with
me and Rocky, she said, "Compared to ferrets, cats are like stuffed
animals!" LOL

During the crushing heartbreak of my last loss, a friend asked me,
"Is it worth it?" I have to say, "Yes."

That said, after ranting and raving about all the my issues having
ferrets and swearing I'll never get them again, a week ago I adopted
another couple! [Will write about them in a future post.]

They not only steal your heart--and put it in their hidey hole where
they hope it won't break when they leave--but also burrow into your
a special part of your soul and stay with you forever.

Shron
In special memory of the one who brought me down this path, Rocky.
