Sweet Maxine left for the Bridge either late Sunday evening or early
Monday morning, passing in her sleep. She was my only "pet shop" kid
and I've never regretted purchasing her. It was on my birthday 7 years
ago and I had just left the funeral of a neighbor that died of cancer
leaving a young son who played with my daughters. The girls wanted to
go to the pet shop (not me) so we stopped there for a few minutes. I
had seen Maxine 3 months earlier and she was still there. She was
pear-shaped pudgy, silver and very different from the little sable
youngsters in the same cage. The owner was cleaning the cage and passed
her to me asking if I wanted to hold her. She pulled herself under my
chin, curled up and let out a big sigh. I finally let go of the tears I
had been holding in since leaving the funeral. The owner said she would
discount her price because she had been there so long. The price she
named was the exact amount my husband had given me for my birthday
gift. She said nobody wanted her.....except me. I named her after my
sweet Max who I had just lost. He came to me from the OR Ferret Shelter
only 4 months earlier and needed a place to call home before he left
for the Rainbow Bridge.
If the Bridge Greeters could maybe just send me a little note that she
arrived okay. Maxine and I never had "the talk" about the Rainbow
Bridge. I just didn't expect her to leave so soon. Oh Maxine-nee-weenie
I love you so and miss you so much. And little Treasure is going to
miss her "grandma" too.
Nancy and her 10... hoping maybe God is done taking her babies for a
while
