I took Blaze to the vet when he wasn't acting right May 6, 2012, due
to the weekend I had to take him to a VCA emergency vet. A little over
an hour later the bill is already $955.80 they are not completely sure
one the problem after blood work, X-ray's, ultrasound, and more. Later
after 3 days there I understand he has liver problems (enzymes are
double the high level- over 850) lmyphnoma (sure my spelling is off)
a mass in.front.of the heart and his breathing is restricted due to
enlarged lymphnoids. I start him on prednisone & do the first
chemotherapy (elspar) he is released. A week later I try continue his
meds with duck soup, & he is no better. I attempt to schedule more
chemo. I notice symptoms of Insulinoma. I do another emergency visit
on 5-27 & 5-28. They do another shot of chemo (elspar) & double the
Prednisone. He is getting worse. Never did they say anything about
putting him down. More chemo, more prednisone. Finally I take my baby
to another vet I deal with having to make "the decision", he sees my
$2000 in vet bills in a little over 3 weeks and he agrees. Blaze is
basically gone when I take him in. I have to hold him to use the
restroom, (couldnt hold up he rear of his body but wouldn't go on my
bed or me unless I was too slow) feed him and well you know. I have him
sedated, kiss him and tell him goodbye & that I love him as I walk out
of the room leaving my husband to stay with him. If I knew how gentle
my vet was going to be I would've stayed. My vet kissed Blaze on his
head and told him "its going to be ok Blazey". (Hubby wittnessed) He
used the existing spot that was shaved for his previous IV's to inject
him and held his stethoscope to Blaze to make sure it happened without
issue. He explained to my husband that he never would've let Blaze be
in his current condition. He would've asked that we let him go on the
27th or 28th. I told him I refuse to let Blaze go at the VCA hospital.
They had no heart. Didn't even care for his quality of life. Told me we
had 3 months to 3 years. We ad 3 weeks. We had him cremated to keep him
with us forever. It was by far the hardest decision I have ever made.
Knowing he was going down hill like he was. Knowing I quote working to
care for him and that I tried everything to keep him alive hurts me bit
helps me. I can say that if I learned anything from this. Please always
get a second opinion. If I listened to VCA, he would still be
suffering.
