Hi Melissa -- here's one more thing to try.
I had a little girl who would go after feet like that, and I tried
everything to make her stop. Nothing.
Then one time, for some reason -- I'm not really sure why -- I screamed
"owie-owie-owie!" when she attacked my foot. She looked up at me,
startled. She examined me for a moment, then went back to the attack,
this time very gently. After that, she would still attack my feet every
chance she got, but didn't bite hard. If it looked like she was getting
a little too carried away, I would just say "Ow!" and she would back
off.
I think she just didn't realize it actually hurt me until then. All the
things I had tried to make her stop were just weird play, as far as she
was concerned. When she finally figured out I was a real wimp in ferret
terms, she was fine.
