Well, we all know there's the hesitation to adopt to a family with
children. I adopted two ferrets to a family today with ten and 12 year
boys. These children were not only very well behaved, they were asking
very pertinent questions. They made the decision which of them was
going to trim nails regularly and which was going to clean ears. When
I sat down to show them how to trim nails, one of the boys asked if he
could trim them on the second ferret so he would know how to do it!
Wow. I've never had anyone, not even an adult, ask to do that. When I
was showing how to clean ears, the second boy asked if he could do the
second one. The ten year old was paying for everything out of money he
had saved. He was making conscientous decisions about what he was going
to buy to go with them. He knew they had to have a carrier to take the
ferrets back home in. He knew they needed Ferretone for nail trimming
and ear cleaning. He got a clear tube because the ferrets loved it. He
got a non-tippable water bowl because he knew the ferrets could tip
over what he already had. He got ear cleaner, shampoo and a large
sleep sack. I was so proud of these two children!
