With spring in the air (it's in the 60's here in CT), it seems like
the time to remind everyone of the importance of heartworm prevention
for ferrets, as the disease has an extremely high mortality rate if
contracted.

I have a copy of a study on Selemectin (the active ingredient in
Revolution) that suggests that 18 mg. per month per ferret is adequate
to prevent heartworm. I personally use 1/2 a vial of the Revolution
for cats (5-15 lbs.) per month for each of my ferrets. Since one vial
has 45 mg of Selemectin, then they are each getting approx. 22 mg per
month, and I believe this to be adequate protection. My two ferret vets
(from different practices) have also agreed with this.

Anyone who would like a copy of this study, feel free to email me
directly.
