A neurotin has been found in shark specimens which should give you
pause. (Years ago we used chicken cartilage for a ferret on vet's
recommendation, and could have used shark cartilage but felt that it
was a silly expense when I could process chicken cartilage myself.)
Through the years I have read of people giving that supplement to
ferrets.

Short quote from the ProMed write-up:
>Researchers at the University of Miami have discovered high
>concentrations of beta-N-methylamino-L-alanine (BMAA) in shark fins,
>a neurotoxin linked to neurodegenerative diseases...
>
>The findings, published in the journal Marine Drugs, suggests that
>consumption of shark fin soup and cartilage pills may pose a
>significant health risk for degenerative brain diseases.
