All,
Since the Ferret Giving Tree 2013 launch is just around the corner!
After discussing this year's tree with several veteran shelter
managers whose opinion I value greatly, I'm going to implement a new
requirement.
All shelters must have been in existence for at least one year before
they will be approved. I'm implementing this so that no one can say
they are a shelter and post ferrets on the Tree and then disappear
right after Christmas. Is this pessimistic? Yes, but it is realistic
too. New "shelters" have been popping up on Facebook left and right.
Are they legitimate? Maybe. If they are still around in a year, then
they can post ferrets to the Giving Tree next year.
Also, please remember that all shelters/rescues/hospices/etc. must be:
* on the SOS or AFA shelter lists OR
* a 501c3 OR
* verifiable with a certified veterinarian OR
* vouched for by a shelter/rescue/hospice on the SOS or AFA lists.
All shelters will be checked to ensure they qualify.
Also, please remember that only living ferrets currently within the
registered shelter may be placed on the Tree. No personal ferrets
allowed.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns with this
new policy.
Remember, Shelters can begin registration on October 15!
Thanks!
