Landlord vs. Ferret
You should always get everything in writing. It doesn't matter what
happened with the rest of the apartment complex. In my experience the
new owner has to provide you with a new lease and set of terms, if you
choose not to comply with those terms (no pets) then you have to move
out, it doesn't matter what the old owners terms were. However, maybe
you can contact the old owner to give your pet a good reference if he
hasn't done any damage and if the new lease states that you can have a
cat for a $300 deposit you could talk to the new owner and offer to pay
the deposit for your ferret. Unfortunately an oral agreement, which it
doesn't sound like you even had that, will not stand up if the complex
is under new management. Another thing to do would be to look up the
renters rights in your state.
Good luck!
