I am trying to find someone dependable in the vicinity of Lake
County/Tavares, FL who can be the contact person for AC when ferrets
come in. I am their contact at this time, and I live in Tallahassee,
over 200 miles away. Their policy is to try to adopt out the healthy
ferrets, but they will contact a rescue if they don't move quickly
enough. They will also contact a rescue if the ferret is unadoptable
for any reason. The catch is that you need to be willing to take in
the ferrets they need you to take. In the last 6-8 months, I have been
contacted four times. The first one had health issues and I took him.
The second two calls were for adoptables and they were both adopted
within a day or two, so nothing there. The latest is for two with
health issues and they are coming to me. The transports can be
difficult so it would be much better if someone more local could take
on this responsibility. I have had several people tell me they will
help but when I need them, they have excuses not to help. I find it
disturbing how difficult it is to find anyone willing to take in needy
ferrets in the Central Florida area! I know there must be some good
soul out there who can help.

Please contact me off-list if you can help, and I will put you in touch
with the AC Officer that I work with.
