Ferret language is pretty much universal as it is with other animals
who 'talk' to you. Pester will 'tell' me it is over due time for her
treat by coming to the side of the cage and staring at me, sometimes
pacing back and forth. I always give her the treat at one particular
door on the 5th floor so when she goes there she is telling me "HEY! I
NEED that treat and I need it now!". Ha! She almost always gets it too.
But I also get a pluffer of "kisses" so it is a two way street. She
will come to me and rest her chin on my wrist which she is telling me
she trusts me and 'loves' me. She is relaxing and feels safe with me.
Is a sign of trust.
I have had ferrets here for well over a decade. All but two were
rescues. Those rescues usually did not live that long where a ferret
does not have a long life span anyway so when they come here some of
that short time is used up already leaving only that shore residual
to share with me. Each one is different and each one is loved and
cherished yet my very favorite has yet to be eclipsed, Byte-me. I pass
by her grave and mourn deeply every time I pass by recalling memories
of that little fur ball.
The ferret is a very special animal. Am extremely glad I took the
interest in them that I have. I keep saying the one I have now will be
the last but without fail another one comes along when one leaves and
I am always so very grateful for that company. So be it.
