From my experience, however limited, it is to do with teeth health. I
have gotten in many with poor dental and one had to have many teeth
removed. He will crush his food against the bowl to eat. I can only
guess because of his lack of teeth. He does not like soft/liquid foods
that well.

So my wager is teeth issue.  Either they are causing a discomfort or ?
