A neurotin has been found in shark specimens which should give you pause. (Years ago we used chicken cartilage for a ferret on vet's recommendation, and could have used shark cartilage but felt that it was a silly expense when I could process chicken cartilage myself.) Through the years I have read of people giving that supplement to ferrets. Short quote from the ProMed write-up: >Researchers at the University of Miami have discovered high >concentrations of beta-N-methylamino-L-alanine (BMAA) in shark fins, >a neurotoxin linked to neurodegenerative diseases... > >The findings, published in the journal Marine Drugs, suggests that >consumption of shark fin soup and cartilage pills may pose a >significant health risk for degenerative brain diseases. http://www.promedmail.org/ http://www.mdpi.com/1660-3397/10/2/509/ <http://www.asianscientist.com/in-the-lab/neurotoxin-bmaa-shark-fin-alzheimers-lou-gehrig-disease-2012/> Sukie (not a vet) Recommended ferret health links: http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/ferrethealth/ http://ferrethealth.org/archive/ http://www.miamiferret.org/ http://www.ferrethealth.msu.edu/ http://www.ferretcongress.org/ http://www.trifl.org/index.shtml http://homepage.mac.com/sukie/sukiesferretlinks.html all ferret topics: http://listserv.ferretmailinglist.org/archives/ferret-search.html "All hail the procrastinators for they shall rule the world tomorrow."
