I had this same question last year and asked a friend. I was losing
my very first fuzzy and s he gave me some good advice. She said "you
will know when the time has come. When you don't see the spark in
their eyes, or their joi de vive in their dance, you will know. Then
you will do the best you can to ease their leaving."

I know its the hardest thing you will ever do, but your beloved pet
will love you even more for it. You are left with a hole that can
eventually be filled with another 4-footed snuggler who will love you
with their whole being. Time will heal you, and even though it never
gets easier, its the price we all pay for loving the fuzzy little
buggers.

My prayers are with you. Just know that you will do your best and that
is all anyone can ask for. Hang in there.
