I have posted a reply to Ardith's story to FHL, so I was hesitant to
repeat it here, but just in case there are people who are subscribed
to the FML only, I am posting the same message again.

Thank you for sharing your story.
I'm not sure about the rules two years ago (rules change often) but now
ferrets will not need to be quarantined in Japan. I need to prepare all
the paperwork beforehand, but what I heard is, with properly prepared
documents, it will take 10 mins to pass the gate. I am told that I
should fax the document to the "animal import office" at the airport
in Tokyo and get double-checked before leaving.
By the way, Hotaru is a cute name! "Firefly" in Japanese.
