FACT was contacted today by a shelter in Westchester, NY who will be
taking 12 ferrets (along with some hamsters and guinea pigs) from a
Brooklyn, NY shelter where they are being temporarily housed after
being pulled from a hoarders home.
We are told they are in good shape; but have no other information
regarding ages, etc at this time. Hopefully we will know more when
they are moved to Westchester this weekend.
The Brooklyn shelter does usually adopt a few ferrets out, but already
have several to be adopted and can't handle any more as they cannot
legally adopt to NYC residents. Thus the Westchester shelter stepped in.
We have 2 or 3 that are going to Tamara's Concerned Ferret Owners
shelter in NJ. Ideally we would like to find other area shelters to
take 5 to 7 of them. FACT can take 1 to 3 if necessary but then we are
maxed out. We believe transport, within reason, can be arranged by the
good folks in Westchester. It's a lot easier on all of us to only take
1 to 3 at once especially with summer drop off season around the
corner.
And yes, shelter has been found for the hamsters and GP's.
Please email me directly if you can help.
Thank you!
