Merry Christmas y'all!
My dear Charlie is still suffering from the deep pyoderma (bacterial
infection deep in the skin) AND a mysterious secondary issue - a "rash"
around his mouth, on his paws, on his lower belly, and on his lower
back that both vets I use think is a secondary issue not clearing up
b/c it is in some way connected to the primary pyoderma condition. So
we're trying to explore what other 'things' might be the cause of the
rash (anti-biotics and anti-fungal meds have not cleared up the rash
but it *appears* that the pyoderma is VERY SLOWLY clearing up).
The "rash" could be triggered by virtually anything so I'm trying to
work through the 'process of elimination' strategy and right now I'm
on FOODS. Maybe Charlie is allergic to chicken so I've switched him
to a "soup" with the main ingredient being a high protein canned cat
food with no chicken or chicken by-products. Because this is a liquid,
I can't leave it out for him to graze on throughout the day like dry
kibble but I'm OK with that most of the time because I work from home.
But for times that I may have to be away from the house for a good
portion of the day, I may need to find an alternative solution.
So my questions to all you are:
1. Does anyone have any experience with a known case of a ferret being
allergic to chicken and, if so, how was the problem addressed and
managed?
2. Does anyone know of a high-protein kibble/dry food (not necessarily
ferret kibble) NOT made with any form or part of chicken?
I've also tried tea tree oil, liquid silver, over-the-counter
anti-fungal topical creme, aloe vera gel, vitamins A & C (internally
and externally to boost immune system in the event the problems are
resulting from a suppressed immune system)
If anyone has any ideas or experience with deep pyoderma or chicken
allergies in any of their pets, please contact me directly :-)
Thank you!
Jennifer & Charlie
