There is a poem about people coming into our lives for a reason, a
season or a life time. Is does not only apply to people. It took a
while for me to become aware of the concept that when I started to
evaluate what we had done to help our ferrets when ill, that maybe,
just maybe that was the lesson that particular ferret was here to
teach me.
Granted there were hours, days, months and years of great laughter and
gentle moments, but the lesson Tunie taught me was about medications
and how to give them. Lukie taught me to just enjoy the day, right to
the end. Eggie was my first lymphoma kid, then too many follwed right
behind him. I learned not to be fooled by the signs of insulinoma, to
watch coloring and energy levels - that anemia John is talking about.
With lymphoma, you can fight the anemia, but only for so long - the
cancer cells begin to release chemicals when they get to a certain
point and then it all seems to go fast.
Sometimes we learn things we missed many times before simply because
we have finally reached a point where we are ready to receive that
information. There is an old chinese proverb. "When the student is
ready the teacher shall appear."
I suspect John, you were finally ready to learn this piece of
information and Loki was your teacher. I'm sure he is sitting on his
cloud up at RB saying, 'Well, I was right, my hoomin Dad is really
chewing on this lesson like a big old N- Bone!"
I appreciate you sharing both your emotions and your learning
experience. May your Loki memories help in your healing. ; )
