It was a lovely moonlit night at de Bridge. Of course SaraFerret was
sound asleep in her hammie. So quiet, so peaceful. Then someone tapped
on the cottage door. Isabel, who is awakens at the drop of a hat,
bounced out of her hammie and ran to open it. In came Mimi, the little
girl courier, with a note in her paw. Isabel asked Mimi to come in
and she went to waken Mommy with a nudge. "Mommy" she said. "We has
company, Miss Mimi is here and she has a note for you. You has got to
get up." So SaraFerret got out of her nice warm hammie and said her
polite "hello" to Mimi. Mimi said,

"SaraFerret, I know its late, but the Boss sent a message that we have
two ferrets crossing. Rather sad too. Is there anyone you want me to
get?"

She handed me de note and I quickly read it and told her who to get and
I scampered off to de entrance. I knew there was no time to spare. I
was just in time to see two fuzzies huddled together at de entrance.
And yes, indeed, they did look very frightened. So I introduced myself,

"Hi I am SaraFerret and I am de bridgegreeter. Welcome to de Rainbow
Bridge. Dis is your new forever home. Here you will have no more pain
or suffering. You will run on green grass forever and have lotsa
friends. Did I mention de fun and games?"

They looked at each other and then one spoke up and said, "My name is
Biscuit and his name is Seraph. He don't say much. Where is Mommy. Why
are we here? What happened to us. Why is our fur all smoky? (At that
moment a big tear slid down from his eye but he quickly brushed it away
after all he was sposed to be the big fuzzy of the two). Oh yeah, can
someone tell whoever is in charge of this place to fix that bridge,
cause its awfully ricketty and it sways terribly. And where are the
friends you mentioned? We sure don't see any. I don't mean to complain
so much. But here we were asleep and when we woke up we was here.
Wouldn't you be upset?"

I replied, "Biscuit and Seraph, I know you have every right to be
upset. I would be too if I was in your place. What happened according
to de note we got was that there was a fire in your house. Your Mommy
is ok, but she didn't make de trip with you. You fuzzies had to make de
trip alone. That is why your fur was all smoky--you went to sleep and
you just crossed over here, you didn't even know which was a blessing
of a sorts. Trust me your Mommy is ok, cause she is de one who sent de
note. You do have a friend here as you will find out late, if you are
patient. About de bridge, I will pass de information on to de Boss who
is in charge of this place although I imagine He has already heard it
from your mouth. Please don't be concerned about complaining; a lot of
fuzzies do it when they first cross--I did it too when I crossed the
bridge. Oh yes, I have got a surprise for you, do you see de wings I
have on my shoulders? You will each get your very own pair of these.
Not to worry--they will not be sissy wings like mine. They will be
nice boy wings special for each of you. Now if you will follow me."

So off we went down de garden path to de Wing House where de wings were
stored. But at de door to their surprise there was Kai, who had crossed
last year. Well at least they knew I hadn't been telling them stories.
A happy reunion, they wouldn't be all alone here. We opened de door and
on de counter was two big boxes--"Biscuit" "Seraph". Biscuit opened his
box and took out his wings--lavender with pink streaks. Seraph opened
his box and took out his wings--blue with black streaks. Kai and I
helped them put on their wings and adjust their halos and each ran to
de big vanity mirror and gazed at dere reflections and then together
they turned to me and said, "Gee We wish Mommy could see us now." Den
I gots an idea.

All four of us went out de door and on down de path to de Misting Pond
and sat down beside de cool clear water. With one swish we saw a vision
of Mommy appear. Biscuit and Seraph got so excited they started waving
and dooking with all of dere might.

"We love you Mommy. Thank you for loving us. We understand what
happened. We are happy you are safe and ok. Please don't worry about
us. We are fine. Kai is here with us. We have wings now and soon we
will be able to fly. Please take care of yourself Mommy."

Then all of them began to throw hugs and kisses and wrapped dem with
all of dere love and laid dem on a nearby shooting star which was
headed to your house and by de time you should read dis it should
have landed dere. And with another swish de vision was gone.

We left there and went down de road to their cottage which was
surrounded by blue cornflowers. Fuzzies were standing all around and
music was a-playing. We all went inside and the two newcomers were
amazed at all of the food. "What's with all of this?" they asked. Kai
replied, "Its a party for you. Welcome to the Bridge!" I could see they
were visiting with their old friend and getting acquainted with new
friends so I just waved my goodbyes and headed for home.

Oh yes, on de way, I made a mention to de Boss of dere request about
de "ricketty swaying bridge."
