Hi, Gwen. Thanks for the gentle reminder to make this list available to
everyone. I have taken the list that was compiled by Dr. Jerry Murray
and included it below. We also have a list of the dosages of the
medications that were asked about by the shelter operators that I will
send to them individually. I was waiting for a couple of corrections
and then just got caught up in life. I will send the attachment to all
of the attendees of the symposium, except for those who asked to be
excluded. If you would like the chart, please let me know. As I said,
if you were at the symposium, I will send it to you.
For everyone, courtesy of Dr. Jerry Murray, here is a list of suggested
first aid items:
I would suggest the following things for a first aid kit for ferret
shelters:
* *
1. alpha trak glucose machine
2. Kwik-stop styptic powder
3. 3M Vetbond tissue adhesive
4. vetwrap
5. syringes for medicating and feeding (1cc, 3cc, and 12 cc)
6. Q tips
7. Pepcid AC 10mg tablets
8. neosporin
9. soft foods (ie A/D, Oxbow's carnivore care, Royal Canin recovery,
LaFeber's exotic carnivore, or Gerber's baby food)
10. ear mite product (otomite plus, Revolution (Rx), Advantage multi
(Rx), Frontline (no Rx), milbemite, acarexx, or ivermectin),
11. flea product (ie Advantage (no Rx) or Frontline (no Rx))
*Requires prescription:*
1. Carafate liquid
2. SQ fluids
3. Revolution (Rx)
4. Advantage multi (Rx)
The kits contained many of these items, but not any prescription items.
They were covered by money from a grant by PetsMart Charities, with
additional funds provided by F.E.R.R.E.T. A special thank you to Steve
Yarbrough and FerretDepot.com, who donated some items, allowing us to
make the donation from PetsMart Charities go further. We were able to
purchase almost all of the items online from FerretDepot.com, a
pharmacy or from the vet. Hope this helps.
