I have an older male ferret who is between 7 and 8 years old who has
a proliferation bowel. Has anyone had this problem with any ferret? I
don't know if it is because of his age or what is going on. He had been
having problems off and on for about 3 months now that I am aware of.
I've had him for a little over a year and the people I got him from
said that he always makes straining noises when he poops. I never
noticed the perforated bowel until about 3 months ago. He has been on
a laxative off and on for 3 months. We have been taken him to the vet
for the last 3 months and he has been on antibiotics, wormed, he has no
obstructions, and still can not figure it out. He is now on a laxative
3 times a day and soft food. I ground his food down to almost a powder
and add water and turkey baby food to it. I'm starting to wonder if it
is an age thing. Our vet did say if he isn't doing any better after the
holidays to bring him in and she would do an ultra sound. Any idea's on
who to get the swollen down? He had a warm soak in a bath today, it
seems to help a little, but not much. I feel so bad for the little guy.
He tries to poop all the time and strains every time he goes, but I
think it is because of the swollen and proliferated bowel that makes
him think he has to go. When he does actually have to go he has a nice
stool. Not hard or anything but a healthy looking stool.
