Dear Ferret Folks-
My niece Sarah was driving around Worcester, Ma the other day (what a
dump) when she saw something that alarmed her. Two ferrets in a cage
sitting out on the sidewalk in a cage on Belmont Hill with a sign
asking for $60.00. She called my husband Dann. By the time he got
there, the sign had been changed to "Free." He took the two madly
shivering ferrets (It's snowing as I write this) home and lo and
behold, I have two Little Wanderers in my living room.
They are two healthy Marshall Farms kits, age unknown but obvious small
kits old enough to eat kibble. There is a male sable and a female
dark-eyed white. They came in a 24X40 in. Pet Smart cage, the one that
sells at Petco for about $150.00. Hmm. Two kits...say two hundred
dollars,two-fifty...another one fifty for the cage (which appears brand
new) for *free* on the sidewalk? The men giving the kits away had no
names for them, offered no explanation. The kits had a tattered hammie,
a filthy Dora La Exploradora fleece blanket, cat food, and a pan of
clumping cat litter. They are better off in my living room for the
moment. Their poops are good, their energy is good, they love to play
and run around. The male has a very sweet nature. The female has been
a little troubled since Caff-Pow (who is five times her size) dragged
her beneath the sofa and traumatized her. She has been fear biting ever
since when I pick her up. Not hard, just enough to let me know that she
doesn't need any more grief. I understand. She is getting extra love.
They have clean bedding now,(some of the lovely John Deere set made for
me)a new lixit type water bottle, a new food dish, MUCH better food,
and a safe litter pan. They needed these things, but what they really
REALLY need is a forever home. If you live in or near New England and
have a good home to share, I am happy to give you ferrets and cage and
bedding. And yeah, I would like a reference or two if I have never
heard of you. Nothing personal, I just don't want these little guys
dumped *again.* I am not willing to separate them. And no, I really
can't responsibly take in two more personal ferrets.
I know that these are *terrible* economic times and we are all having
trouble making ends meet. It's a lot to ask for anyone to increase
their Businesses right now--but I'm asking. I'm asking. Please contact
me privately if you think your home might be the right one.
