It was a lovely day at de Bridge. SaraFerret was on top of her roof
trying to patch it from Dexter's latest (misguided) courier message
delivery. It seemed like every time she got it repaired this happened.
But at last it seemed like she was finished. Just then she looked up
to see Mimi, the little girl courier, appear on her roof, with a note
in her paw. She said,
"Hi SaraFerret, I see Dexter has been by your house again. Have you
checked it from inside to make sure there are no holes so the next time
it rains, there are no leaks? I have a message from the Boss that a
ferret is crossing the Bridge and you have been requested to meet her?
Do you want me to get the family?"
I looked at the shabbily patched job that I had done and knew that it
would have to wait. I took the note and read it and told Mimi who to
get and I flew to the entrance hoping I would be in time. As I arrived,
I saw a small winged dragon lay a beautiful sable fuzzy at my feet. The
dragon flew off and I quickly introduced myself,
"Hi I am SaraFerret and I am de bridgegreeter. Welcome to de Rainbow
Bridge. Here you will have no more pain or suffering. You will have
lotsa friends and run on green grass forever. Did I mention de fun and
games?"
She looked at me and said, "My name is Pebbles and I belong to Mum Liz
and Dad Mike. Do you happen to know them? The dragon told me a bit
about this bridge thing, but not a lot as he didn't seem to have a lot
of time. He said he had places to go. Wonder what he meant? Maybe he
had more ferrets to pick up. I had to get my insides fixed but it
didn't seem to work right so here I am with this nasty scar so do you
think you could fix it so it didn't look quick so bad? A lady has to
look her best don'cha think? Where are all my friends at anyway? Are
they hiding somewhere? Maybe you and me are all there are here. But I
am a nice ferret so you and I can be the best of friends if that is all
there is here."
I answered, "Nice to meet you Pebbles. I don't know your Mum and
Dad personally although I have heard loads about them and your Aunt
Michele from others whom I have greeted. (Atta girl, Sara, get your
grammar correct and make Sandee proud!) I am sure your dragon had other
creatures to pick up, but not necessarily ferrets. I only see him when
he brings your friends across the bridge. There are other parts of the
bridge, you see. But as to your scar and other parts, if you will
check, it was healed when you crossed. (Pebbles checked and sure
enough, it was gone and her tummy was healed completely). I agree that
a lady fuzzy has to look her best but if you will look at me, I don't
look absolutely perfect. It seems as though the Boss says that I will
get too prideful if I have fluffy fur and so all He gave me for one
Christmas was a fluffy tail. So, I have this thin fur and a fluffy
tail. As for your friends you will see them later. But I do have a
surprise for you. You are gonna get wings just like mine."
She replied, "Wings?"
I said, "Yes, wings. Not exactly like mine. Yours will be designed
especially for you. They are great for flying about the heavens. Sure
beats hopping about from cloud to cloud."
She answered, "I am not sure about these wing things. Do my friends
have these things?"
I replied, "Of course they do. Didn't you see how beautiful the dragon
flew. Now he can fly anywhere. Unfortunately you can only fly in the
heavens, but as you can see they are so beautiful. Now if you will
follow me."
So off we went down the garden path where we were met by a large group
of NZ fuzzies. (Now I knew we could not all fit into the Wing House so
we selected only two). We continued on down the path to the House and
opened the door and on the counter we saw the box marked "Pebbles."
She opened the box and took out her wings--dark blue with white tips
(perfect to remind her of the mountain tops). Chocolate helped her put
on her wings and Shawnee adjusted her halo. Then she ran to the big
vanity mirror and gazed at her reflection. My what a beautiful ferret
she was. Then she turned to me and said, "Gee I wish Mum and Dad could
see me now." Then I gots an idea.
So we opened the door and the rest of meeting group: Badger, Ash,
Addypos, Shortee, Chrony, Latte, and Argon gathered about to hug and
greet the new arrival but only for a bit. Then we went down the path
to the Misting Pond and sat down beside the cool clear water and with
one swish we saw the vision of Mum Liz and Dad Mike and Widgy, Bear,
Palo, Dimey, and oh yes Mum Michele appear. Pebbles got so excited she
started waving and dooking with all of her might.
"I love you so much. Thank you for loving me. The dragon got me here
safe. My friends are all here. Oh yes, my wings sure do remind me of
home, as they are blue with tips of white. Soon I will be able to fly
like the dragon does but I just won't be able to fly back home except
in your dreams. I can always visit you there. I know you can always
see me in the stars, though, Mum and Dad."
Then she began to throw hugs and kisses and laid them on a nearby
shooting star which was headed to your house and by the time you should
read this it should have zipped thru the Southern Hemisphere and landed
there. And with another swish the vision was gone.
So we left there and went down another road to a very large group of
cottages, with flags of NZ flying. Fuzzies of all colors and sizes ran
out. Two large sized ones were carrying a banner reading, "Welcome
Pebbles". She could see a large number of tables set up and what looked
like food on those tables. She turned to me and asked "Why?" I told her
it was a welcoming party for her. She seemed amazed. But then she was
pulled into the mass of friends and all the dancing fuzzies. I went and
nibbled at all the food. I was never one to pass up all the goodies.
Chocolate came up and invited me to stay and dance with him. I so
dearly wanted to do it, but I knew I had to dash back to my cottage and
check on my roof. So I hunted up Pebbles, and gave her a hug. I waved
my goodbyes to all and headed for home.
So ended another greeting at the Rainbow Bridge.
Lovey and hugs,
SaraFerret,
bridgegreeter
