Subject:
H1N1 nasal vaccine fear

I could have got the nasal vaccine already, but declined...I told them
I work with ferrets and they said it was a no-no. I would think that
the live weakened virus that lives in the nose (but too weak to live
in the lungs) could not be spread to ferrets, but they said no, get the
shot when it comes out.

I wonder why it is possible to spread it to ferrets when you get the
nasal vaccine, but not to babies? They recommended all people who
worked in health care settings (and daycares) to get it. But the risk
of infection to yourself and spreading it to others, through the nasal
vaccine, is almost 2.5%.

I am glad they said something to me although I wanted the vaccine.

I know that some people run these air filtraion machines, with the
ultraviolet lights inside, and air filters, and ionizers, to kill germs
in the air in their baby's room. I have heard of a few people using
them for ferrets. I also would recommend using a mask. I use a mask
every day when I do the pine pellets (dust irritates me, as I sift the
pellets daily). Washing hands, changing clothes, and putting on a good
mask while interacting with them for the duration of the flu season
could be in order. It seems this is breaking out everywhere. What I
don't understand is why the government is taking soooooooo long to get
killed vaccines out to the public. Other countries already have/had
stockpiles of them before the US did.
