[log in to unmask], as old & bald, we just couldn`t say no.
Next came a group of four from a kill shelter nearby. Two of them were
sick. They were brought to us, in spite of our recent announcement that
we were closing. Refusing would have been a death sentence for them.
How could we say no? [...]42_2Nov200913:19:

[log in to unmask], 2 Nov 2009 17:57:51 EST555_- A ferret that I chose on the Giving Tree has passed on to the Rainbow
Bridge. It has happened to me before and I have always done the same
thing. I still give the presents intended for the deceased ferret to
the shelter in memory of that ferret. That way the shelter still gets
bedding, food, monetary donations, etc that is much needed. The shelter
moms/dads have a hard time choosing a needy ferret with so many needy
little ones in their care and the loss of a special ferret should not
mean a loss of gifts or donations. I [...]35_2Nov200917:57:

[log in to unmask], 2 Nov 2009 09:56:27 -0600628_- October was a busy month for us. We went to a few ferret shows and had
a great time. It's now time to start thinking seriously about Christmas
shopping! Custom made requests are always welcome. Just send me an
email at (

Profits for October's sales went to Ferret WayStation in Texas. Connie
and the volunteers do a fantastic job, but like all shelters are in
need of adoptions, volunteers, and donations. Adoption is the way to
go! November profits will go to Ferret's Unlimited in Ohio. Don't
forget about the Pick-A-Shelter program! If you desire a shelter other

[log in to unmask], 2 Nov 2009 08:21:50 -0500332_- I am sorry that Sue Hayes has so many sick ferrets....
I really want to stress that rapidly spreading upper respiratory
illness may possibly be canine distemper. One fo the symptoms fo
canine distemper is just that.. so I am praying that Sue's vet has
run titer checks on some of these kids to rule that out. [...]46_2Nov200908:21:

[log in to unmask], 2 Nov 2009 04:22:37 -0800622_- Hi all.
My heartfelt sympathies to anyone with a ferret with flu, let alone
multiple ferrets with flu. It must be terrifying.
When one of ours came down with it in July, probably the regular
seasonal version, one of our doctors recommended children's benedryl,
we knew that one, and .2 cc of guaifenesin - a decongestant available
in children's and baby cough/cold syrups. She was getting both about
every 6 hours, you could tell when they were wearing off, she was
miserable and struggling to breathe. The guaifenesin really seemed to
help even after she had no obvious signs of [...]46_2Nov200904:22:

[log in to unmask], 2 Nov 2009 06:35:02 -0500540_- While I agree the best way to prevent spreading the flu is washing
hands, etc. as Melissa stated, I refuse to get any flu shot. I am a
nurse as well and recently left a hospital with over 1000 beds in a
large city.
The seasonal one is a crap shoot, although better than nothing for
those with chronic illnesses. The H1N1 is
