When you take him in for his check-up, BW, etc. I would like to suggest
that you also have him tested for heartworms. They are very prevalent
in Florida and I would be concerned since he lived outdoors for a time.
Only one can kill. Here is a link to a good article for your vet to
read. Dr. Cottrell is in Florida and routinely tests for HWs.
Given the condition you received him in, I think I would take him in
sooner, rather than later, for a complete workup.
